ObjectiveTo observe the effectiveness of Chinese medicine warm compress on Meridians in the back part for cancer pain relief. Discussion on the Integrated Chinese medicine and Western medicine for the treatment cancer pain to enhance effectiveness, and able to reduced adjuvant analgesic doses and adverse reactions and improve the quality of life. To offer new ideas methods, and provides references for further research.Methods62 cancer patients with pain enrolled were randomized into the treatment group(n=31) and the control group(n=31). Based on the conventional treatment, were treated according to "WHO Three step ladder" for cancer pain relief in both groups. The treatment group were treated with Chinese medicine warm compress on Meridians in the back part. Put the herb materials packed in the warm packet (Evodia rutaecarpa 120g, Semen sinapis 120g, Ephedra sinica 30g, Asarum sieboldii 30 g),and deposited on Meridians in the back part after heating, two time per day and lasting for 20 min/time,7 days as a course, totally 2 courses treatment for each group. Pain assessment was measured by the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) before and 12,24,48,72Hours,7days and 14 days after intervention in each group. Finally, we will be conducted to evaluate the analgesic effect of the treatment, adverse reactions, Performance Status(PS) and Quality of life(QOL).ResultsThe VAS scores before and after treatment in several time points of both group showed a statistically very significant difference (P<0.05).Observed overall response rate (ORR) was 70.97% in the treatment group, with 70.97% (22/31) in partial remission (PR), and 25.81% (8/31) in minimal remission (MR), and 29.03% in the control group, with 29.03%(9/31) in partial remission (PR),25.81%(17/31) in minimal remission (MR). Difference between the two groups in ORR showed a statistically very significant difference (P<0.05). A comparative study of the adjuvant analgesic doses, the differences between the two groups were also statistically significant in the after 1 course, which showed the control group changed adjuvant analgesic doses more than the treatment group (P<0.05), and adverse reaction incidence in the control group more than the treatment group (P<0.05). After the treatment, the result in the PS and QOL score between two groups showed that the treatment group was a statistically very significantly higher in the control group (P<0.05).GonelusionApplying Integrated Chinese medicine warm compress on Meridians in the back part and Western medicine for cancer pain relief is effective, able to reduced adjuvant analgesic doses, no adverse reactions, and safe in the treatment of cancer pain, and could evidently improve the quality of life.
