ObjectiveWe planed to observe the clinical curative efficiency of acupuncture on trigger points in treating Qi and blood stasis type of Chronic Pelvic Inflammation Disease (CPID). We established acupuncture as a control group, and compare the total scores, the VAS scores, the curative effect and the recurrence rate in treatment group, which provide a new treatment for chronic pelvic inflammatory disease.MethodsThe diagnosis criteria was based on《Guiding Principle of Chinese Herbs and New Medicine Clinical Research of Chronic Pelvic Inflammation Disease》 (2002). To meet the requirements of the study, according to the stochastic indicator was divided into the Control group and Observation group. There were 50 patients in each group. The Observation group was treated with acupuncture on acupoints, and the Control group was treated with acupuncture on trigger points. Both groups were treated per 3 days, and had a course of fifteen days (we had the treatment during the intermenstruum, and stopped during the menarche). The Control group was retained needle in 10min, the Observation group was retained needle in 30min. The treatment was required for two courses. Efficiency evaluation:Cured:there was no symptoms or signs in patients, and the gynecological exam was normal, the score was none; Significant effective:there were no symptoms or signs, and the gynecological exam was much more better than ever, post score decreased 66.67% than the first score that patients had; Effective:the symptoms and signs still existed, gynecological exam was a little better, and the score was decreased 33.33% than the first score; no effect:there was no obvious improvement in patients, so was gynecological exam, the score had no obvious improvement. The total effective rate=the cured rate+the significant effective rate+effective rate. We observed the total scores, the total effective rate and the Visual Analogue Scale/Score in two groups, and compared the difference between them. The time we observed the score and rate was before the study had begun, when the first course was done, when we finished the treatment and three months later.ResultsIn the Control Group, the total scores and the VAS scores of each point-in-time were statistically different (P<0.01). In the Observation Group, the total scores and the VAS scores of each point-in-time were statistically different(P<0.01). It suggested that both methods could effectively relieve the lumbar and abdominal pain, symptoms and signs of Chronic Pelvic Inflammatory Disease patients. The value of P of interaction between time and treatment of total scores was less than 0.01. The value of P of interaction between time and treatment of VAS scores was less than 0.05. It suggested that in terms of relieving the lumbar and abdominal pain, symptoms and signs, there is interaction between different time and treatment, which indicated that the difference between Control Group and Observation Group at each point-in-time was statistical. It showed acupuncture on trigger points was better than acupuncture on acupoints in relieving the lumbar and abdominal pain, symptoms and signs of Chronic Pelvic Inflammatory Disease patients. The recent curative effective rate in Control group was 91.49% and Observation group was 75.0%. The result between two groups had a statistically difference (P<0.05). It showed that acupuncture on trigger points was more effective than acupuncture on acupoints in recent curative effect. The long-term effective rate in Control group was 87.23%and Observation group was 68.75%. The result between two groups had a statistically significantly difference (P<0.05). It showed that acupuncture on trigger points was more effective than acupuncture on acupoints in long-term effect.ConelusionAcupuncture on trigger points and acupuncture on acupoints were effective in relieving the lumbar and abdominal pain, symptoms and signs. The result was satisfied. Besides, acupuncture on trigger points was better than acupuncture on acupoints in relieving the lumbar and abdominal pain, symptoms and signs. The Control group was better than the Observation group in recent curative effect. Follow-up results suggest both methods could maintain the effect, and acupuncture on trigger points was better than acupuncture on acupoints.
