ObjectiveUltrasonic Therapy has been used as a noninvasive, safer treatment for athletic injury recently. Ultrasonic Therapy transmits sound waves through the tissues simulating the body’s chemical reactions and therefore healing process. It reduces tissue spasm, accelerates the healing process and results in pain relief. The purpose of this study is to discuss the clinical effect of using Ultrasonic Therapy combining with kinesiotherapy on patients who suffer chondromalacia patellar. The aim is to provide reference for clinical practice on early stage chondromalacia patellar and improve appropriate use of rehabilitation interventions for chondromalacia patellar.Methods60 patients with CP were randomly recruited from the department of orthopedics in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. Subjects were randomly divided into 2 groups as experimental group and control group. The experimental group members undergo both Ultrasonic therapy and kinesiotherapy treatment while the control group only uses kinesiotherapy. The study use pre-treatment VAS pain score and Lysholm knee score (LKSS) and compare with the scores after the treatment to evaluate the clinical effect of the interventions.ResultsBoth groups have shown significant improve compared to pre-treatment. The decrease of VAS score of the experimental group is larger than the control group with statistical significance P<0.01. The LKSS of experimental group is much higher than the control group with a P< 0.01 which shows a statistical significant difference between two groups.Gonclusions1. Both methods of treatment can improve the symptom of the chondromalacia patellae.2. Using Ultrasonic therapy combining with kinesiotherapy as treatments for chondronmalacia patellae has better clinical effect than only use kinesiotherapy.3. Ultrasonic therapy has better results on pain relief. Kinesiotherapy can increase muscle strength and the stability of the knee-joint and it can also improve the range of motion of your joints and boosts circulation. Using these two treatments together can accelerate the rehabilitation time and prevent further aggravated.
