Objectives This research based on the mentors’ many years experience of peripheralfacial paralysis treated by combination of acupuncture and medicine on refractory, thesimple acupuncture group and the simplex group of traditional Chinese medicine werecompared in the method of control study, the clinical effect of acupuncture in treating thedisease was observed systematicly.This study aimed to make the advantages oftraditional Chinese medicine in treatment of intractable facial paralysis be played, andprovie the effective, workable, easily applied treatment for eripheral facial paralysis inclinic.Methods105cases of intractable facial paralysis cases who meet the diagnostic criteriawere randomly divided into three groups: treament group(combination therapy), controlGroup I(simple acupuncture) and control group II(simple medicines).Treatment groupacupuncture selected points for "a wind II double nine through" Yifeng (SJ17)(ipsilateral), Hegu (LT4)(double), Zusanli (ST36)(double), Cuanzhu (BL2) throughYangbai (GB14),Yangbai (GB14) through Yuyao (Ex-HN04), Sizhukong (SJ23) throughQnbin (GB7), Tongziliao (GB1) through Quanliao (SI18), Yingxiang (LI20) throughDicang (ST4), Shuigou (DU26) through Dicang (ST4), Chengjiang (RN24) throughDicang (ST4), Dicang (ST4) through Jiache (ST6), Jiache (ST6) through Dicang(ST4).Qufeng tongluo decoction,which is the Mentors’formul based on experience wasselected as the herbal formul,mainly drugs inclues: Angelica sinensis, ligusticumchuanxiong, Scorpion, centipede, Peach kernel and safflower, Bombyx batryticatus,earthworm, etc.Control group I acupuncture points selection with the treatment group ofacupoint selection, control group II formula selection with traditional Chinese medicinein the treatment group selection. The patients had received one times Treatment everyday,30times for a course of treatment.3~5days later, we began the2nd course andevaluated the therapeutic effect after the end of treatment. before and after treatment, Thechanges of scores that reflect symptoms and signs and the therapeutic index and clinicalefficacy were observed systematically.Results There was no significant difference between the three groups for age, sex andcourse of disease before they received the treatment respectively(P>0.05), so the three groups are comparable.;After the end of treatment, in improving signs and symptomsscore, therapeutic index and clinical aspects: the treatment group compared with thecontrol group I, there was significant difference (P<0.05); Control group I compared withthe control group II, there was significant difference (P<0.05);Treatment group comparedwith the control group II, there was a significant difference (P<0.01). After the end oftreatment, As for the treatment group,8cases were cured,13cases were significantlyeffective,11cases were effectual and3cases were unfruitful with a total cure rate of22.86%,the total effective rate is91.43%;As for the control group I,4cases werecured,10cases were significantly effective,12cases were effectual and9cases wereunfruitful with a with a total cure rate of11.43%,the total effective rate is74.29%; As forthe control group Ⅱ,1cases were cured,8cases were significantly effective,10caseswere effectual and16cases were unfruitful with a with a total cure rate of2.86%,the totaleffective rate is54.27%.Cure rate and total effective rate are P<0.05and P<0.01respectivly, total effective rate in the treatment group is higher than the control group andthe control group. It means that the effect of acupuncture treatment of intractable facialparalysis is the best.Conclusion Clinical control study is confirmed with the acupuncture treatment ofintractable facial paralysis has better clinical curative effect and workable, appropriate inclinical practice.
