Objective:To assess the prevalence of nutritional status and nutritional risk, and nutritional support in hospitalized patients with gastric cancer,to determine gender or age or tumor staging associated difference in the prevalence of nutritional risk.Through comparing the hospital stay and the complication rate,to provide evidence for the rational clinical application of nutrition support. Methods:A total of218patients with gastric cancer admitted during January2012to June2013from Affiliated Tumor Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University.Nutritional Risk Screening2002(NRS2002) is used for the nutritional risk assessment. The relationship between nutritional risk and them (including nutritional support, the hospital stay and the complication rate)were analysed.ResuIts:Of the218patients,the applicable rate of NRS2002was100%,the incidence of malnutrition was6.4%(14/218) and the incidence of nutritional risk was79.4%(173/218).The incidence of nutritional risk was similar in different gender (P=0.078).The incidence of nutritional risk was significantly higher in≥60years old patients than patients who were <60years old (P<0.001), The incidence of nutritional risk was similar in tumor staging(P=0.748).All of the patients received nutritional support. The rate of parenteral nutritional support is39.0%(85/218) and the rate of enteral and parenteral nutrition support is61.0%(133/218). In different nutritional risk, there was significant difference (P=0.014)in average hospital stay, but there was no significant difference(P=0.465) in the complication rate. Conclusion:Patient with gastric tumor has a high nutritional risk which is related to age.NRS2002is a powerful tool and should be recommended to use at patients with gastric cancer, and provide the evidence of nutritional therapy.
