Objective:To analyze the correlation between Metabolic Syndrome and Northwest Dryness Syndrome in Kashgar prefecture, Xinjiang. Method:Case-control design was used. A total of240cases were selected. Chi-square test was adopted for enumeration data, and t (t’) test or analysis of variance was used for measurement data. Results:(1) The integral comparison of state of Northwest Dryness Syndrome between the case group and control group:The total integral of Northwest Dryness Syndrome in case group was (11.49±0.89) higher than that of control group (5.84±0.81), P<0.01. By comparing various accompanied symptoms, it was found that, except for the Fire&Wind Dryness Syndrome of Lung&Heart&Spleen as well as Lung&Stomach Yin Deficiency Syndrome, all the other syndromes in case group were higher than those in control group (P<0.01).(2) In Kashgar prefecture, the attack rate of Northwest Dryness Syndrome (24.17%) in case group was higher than that in control group (7.5%), Χ2=12.507, P<0.01.(3) In the correlation analysis between the state of TCM syndrome and northwest dryness syndrome in case group, Spleen Yin Deficiency Syndrome (Metabolic Syndrome) had the strongest correlation with Damp Accumulation Syndrome (Northwest Dryness Syndrome)(r=0.615, P<0.01), followed by Liver-qi Stasis Syndrome and Heart&Kidney Yin Deficiency Syndrome (r=0.507, P<0.01).(4) The attack rate of Qi, blood, Yin, Yang, and viscera in case group of Metabolic Syndrome ranked from highest to lowest:Liver Deficiency Syndrome (44.17%), Heart Deficiency Syndrome (40.00%), Yin Deficiency Syndrome (16.67%), Qi Deficiency Syndrome (12.5%). And all of them were higher than those in control group (P<0.01). Through comparison of integral in two groups, it was found that, the total integral of deficiency syndrome and the integral of Qi Deficiency Syndrome, Yin Deficiency Syndrome, Heart Deficiency Syndrome, Stomach Deficiency Syndrome and Liver Deficiency Syndrome in case group were all higher than those in control group.(5) For the dryness syndrome groups and non-dryness syndrome groups in case group and control group, by comparing these four groups, the result was:The crowd with both Metabolic Syndrome and Northwest Dryness Syndrome had the poorest habitus, while the crowd with neither Metabolic Syndrome nor Northwest Dryness Syndrome had the best habitus.Conclusions:(1) For Uighur in Kashgar prefecture, Xinjiang, Metabolic Syndrome was always concomitant with Northwest Dryness Syndrome, moreover, the severity of clinical symptoms of Metabolic Syndrome was associated with the state of Northwest Dryness Syndrome, viz. people who are in severe state of Metabolic Syndrome also have severe clinical manifestation of Northwest Dryness Syndrome.(2) For Uighur in Kashgar prefecture, Xinjiang, the deficiency syndrome body constitution of patients suffering Metabolic Syndrome was mainly Heart&Liver Deficiency Syndrome and Qi Yin Deficiency Syndrome. Northwest Dryness Syndrome could affect the deficiency habitus of MS of Uighur patients, and the habitus of people with MS and Northwest Dryness Syndrome was worst, the habitus of people without MS and Northwest Dryness Syndrome was best. Prevention and cure of Northwest Dryness Syndrome is expected to become an effective way to improve the habitus of people in xinjiang, so as to prevent the incidence of Metabolic Syndrome, which provides clinical epidemiology basis for developing prevention and cure strategy of Metabolic Syndrome in Xinjiang from the perspective of "treating the different diseases with the same therapy".
