Objective:The purpose of preliminary understanding prevalence of population above40years old with knee osteoarthritis (knee osteoarthritis, KOA) in Sangzhi of Hunan province and analyze associated risk factors for provide scientific foundation of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of local KOA.Methods:1. Formulate questionnaire of KOA epidemiology.2. Organize the training of6professional medical personnel for perform investigation, unify evaluation criteria of survey project.3. Questionnaire of1296people those above40years old in22villages and towns where more concentrated population in the Sangzhi of Hunan province from December9of2012to January9of2013. Aspect of investigation is questionnaire and physical examination, Investigative steps include:The first step:provide a questionnaire to understand①General:Name, gender, age, nationality, occupation, weight, living environment, personal hobbies etc.②KOA prevalence.③Whether the medical history and family history.④Assessment of knee joint and HSS score. The second step:After extract of basic confirmed investigation object contacted with a person again by telephoning for more detailed understand that to check their general situation, treatment and other information. The third step is to visit the hospital where the patient had treated for better understand of conventional treatment program of KOA as well as follow up result of patient in these hospital.4. After completion of investigation integrated statistic database, used SPSS18.0software chi square test univariate binary logistic regression analysis, subsequently, using multivariate binary logistic regression analysis of all the factors respectively were screened to find out the risk factors, take significant level P<0.05 which indicates that the result was statistically significant.Result:1.The KOA prevalence rate of population above40years old is25.2%, no significant difference (P>0.05) prevalence between male (24.6%), female (25.7%).80-89age group was highest prevalence of37.5%,40-49year-old age group was minimum of12.1%.2.Han nations has highest prevalence of37.5%, the lowest prevalence Miao nation11.5%. The prevalence rate of preserved food based patient was35.1%, mainly of patient who based on spicy food prevalence rate was45.1%.3.Sick people327people (474knees), in which180people were affected knee (55.0%), left knee99(30.3%), right knee81(24.8%), both of knees147(45.0%).4. Awareness of KOA among all of people was3.32%, a patient who know about KOA of5.2%, rate of medical treatment45.57%, rate of cure was44.65%.Conclusion:1. With age,the prevalence of KOA is rising especially highest in between60-69years old of patient. Han nations has highest prevalence.2. Symptoms of KOA’s may aggravate in cold, wet weather and autumn and winter.3. A major risk factors including:above40years old, nationality such as Han, Bai, Tujia, smoking, excess weight, preserved and spicy food, a history such as knee-related congenital anomalies, knee trauma and history rheumatoid knee arthritis which can be onset of KOA.
