Objective:To build a physical activity behavior modification program, based on transtheoretical model and using a pedometer with telephone support as interventions. To evaluate effect on the change of physical activity behavior of patients with newly diagnosed Type2diabetes by the program. To evaluate effect on the change of body shape indexes, blood pressure, blood glucose, blood fat index and quality of life patients with newly diagnosed Type2diabetes by the program. Methods:To select70cases of patients with newly diagnosed Type2diabetes in Outpatient of the Second Xiangya Hospital, which were randomly divided into control group and experimental group by random number table, with35cases in each group. The patients in control group received regular education by researcher, including diet, exercise, blood glucose monitoring, glycemic control, emotional response, foot care and the way of wearing a pedometer, which lasted approximately2h. Except for regular education, patients in experimental group also received physical activity behavior modification program designed by researcher, involving individualized health guidance face-to-face and telephone support, which lasted about six months. It was compared walking steps, body shape index, blood pressure, blood glucose, blood fat index, living quality scores and the quantity of physical activity after intervention and three months later.Results:(1)The study included70cases at the begining, and only30cases in control group and32in experimental group after6-month intervetion and3-months follow-up, with lost rate being11.43%.(2)Both total steps and effective steps per day among groups were statistically significant (P<0.05), change over time (P<0.05), and there was interaction effect between time and interaction (P<0.05).(3)A11targets about physical activity would change over time (P<0.05), except work and housework dimensions, only entertainment dimension among groups was statistically significant (P<0.05), and there was interaction effect between time and interaction on transportation, entertainment and overall physical activity (P<0.05).(4)A11body shape indexes and blood pressure would change over time (P<0.05), and only WHR among groups was statistically significant (P<0.05), and there was interaction effect between time and interaction on Wt, BMI,WC, and WHR(P<0.05).(5)A11blood glucose and blood fat index would change over time (P<0.05), except HDL, and none of them among groups was statistically significant (P>0.05), and there was interaction effect between time and interaction on FPG,2hPG, HbAlc and TG(P<0.05).(6)A11quality of life scores would change over time (P<0.05), only psychological quality of life score among groups was statistically significant (P<0.05), and there was interaction effect between time and interaction on psychological, social relationship and overall quality of life (P<0.05).Conclusion:(1)Physical activity behavior modification program, based on transtheoretical models and using a pedometer with telephone support as intervention, can change behavior of physical activity, to improve walking steps and physical activity significantly for patients with newly diagnosed Type2diabetes.(2)Physical activity behavior modification program, based on transtheoretical models and using a pedometer with telephone support as intervention, can improve the body shape, blood glucose control, TG, and quality of life significantly for patients with newly diagnosed Type2diabetes.(3)Built the physical activity behavior modification program successfully, which based on transtheoretical models and using a pedometer with telephone support as intervention. It has been proved scientific, feasible and effective, and it’s worth being promoted.
