Objective:To analyze the clinical characteristics of extensively ulcerative colitis of new onset. Methods:Clinical data of inpatients with ulcerative colitis of new onset in the People’s Hospital of Xinjiang Autonomous Region from May2007to March2012were retrospectively analyzed, and constitution ratios of nationality, gender ratios, age at diagnosis, residential environment, disease severity, clinical symptoms, laboratory examination results, colonoscopic results and histopathological results were compared among the type of extensiveness and the type of rectum and the type of left-sided colon.Normal distribution data were analyzed by using one-way analysis of variance, skew distribution data and ordinal data were analyzed by using Kruskal-Wallis H test and count data were analyzed by using chi-square test when compared among the three groups. Results:A total of67patients with the type of extensiveness of new onset were enrolled, the constituent ratios of Han nationality, Uygur nationality and Kazak nationality were32.8%,58.2%,and9.0%,respectively.The ratio of male to female was1.48:1,the age at diagnosis was (43.27±16.91)years,the ratio of city to countryside was3.19:1.Most of these patients were mild.the proportions of mild group, moderate group and severe group were56.7%,20.9%,and22.4%,respectively.Abdominal pain, diarrhea and purulent stools were the predominant symptoms, some patients presented with fever and tenesmus,a few patients presented with abdominal distension, nausea, vomiting and peripheral arthritis. The proportions of increases of ESR,hypersensitive-CRP and plasmatic fibrinogen were37.3%,44.8%and31.3%,respectively.Abdominal pain, diarrhea, severe degree and Uygur nationality were more common and higher scores of Mayo Score in the type of extensiveness of new onset compared to the type of rectum and the type of left-sided colon. There were statistical differences in abdominal pain, diarrhea, severe degree,Uygur nationality and Mayo Score in pairwise comparison among the three groups (P<0.017). Conclusion:As to extensively ulcerative colitis of new onset:abdominal pain, diarrhea, severe degree and Uygur nationality predominated, higher scores of Mayo Score, mild and moderate degree were the main disease severity, the number of severe patients significantly increased compared to the type of rectum and the type of left-sided colon.
