Objective:To evaluate the postoperative complications and visual quality after manual small incision cataract surgery versus phacoemulsification. Methods:Randomized controlled trials(RCTs) and clinical controlled trials(CCTs) were identified from CNKI (1992-2012.12), WANFANG(1998-2012.12), VIP(1989~2012.12),CBM,CHAOXINQME DLINE,EMBASE,Cochrane Library(Issue10,2012). The effect was measured as an odds ratio (OR) and weighted mean difference (WMD). Review manager5.0software was used to perform the meta-analysis. Results:Only relevant articles from the resource material were included and/or excluded using a strict criterion. A total of9articles were included in the meta-analysis. The OR of naked visual acuity0.3at1week after surgery was0.93(95%CI was0.68-1.67), The OR of posterior capsular ruptured and corneal edema after surgery were1.07(95%CI was0.73-1.58),0.90(95%CI was0.70-1.16), respectively. The WMD of astigmatism at1mouth after surgery was0.08D (95%CI was-0.02-0.17D), there was no statistically significant difference(P=0.12). Conclusions:The evidence currently available showed that MSICS is safe and reliable surgery as same as PHACO for the patients with cataract. But all indicators for different regions, different races, different degree of cataract,as well as different surgeon needs more rigorous design large, randomized controlled study further research.
