Purpose:To further study the operation methods of manual small incision cataract surgery and phacoemulsification,and to discover and evaluate their effectiveness.Method:Gathered and studied 196 elder cataract cases(212 eyes) operated using the two different methods from Jan.to Dec.in 2005 and from Jan.to Jun.in 2006 in our hospital,and statistically compared the post-surgery data of vision,astigmatism and complication.Result:One month after manual small incision cataract surgery or phacoemulsification, postoperative vision larger than 0.4 is 94.53%and 92.86%,postoperative astigmatism is 1.64+0.87D and 1.64+0.80D,respectively and after three monthes postoperative vision larger than 0.4 is 96.09%and 94.05%.No significant difference between the two methods.Cornea reaction disappeared after one month.Conclusion:The procedures of manual small incision cataract surgery and phacoemulsification are similar and combinable.The effectiveness is close.We can choose the one that best suits a patient's situation.
