Object:To investigate the effect of regulation of the blood lipid and protection of liver function of Carumcarvi L. in a hyperlipidemia rat model and explore its mechanism. Methods:After two-week acclimation,4810-week old male rats were divided into6groups randomly, including the model group, Xuezhikang group, high, middle and low doses of CCL groups (300,150,75mg/kg/d) and the normal group,8rats in each group. All the groups except the control group were fed by a high-fat diet for12days and then tested the blood lipids from the tail vein. Drugs were given to the hyperlipemia rats by intragastric administration for8weeks, once daily. The model group and the normal group were given normal saline instead. The body weight was measured every two weeks. The blood was collected from the abdominal aorta12hours after the last administration. Total cholesterol (TC), the triglyceride (TG), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), blood lipid levels and aspartate amino transferase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT) and total protein (TP) levels were determined in serum, lipoprotein (LPL), hepatic lipase (HL) activity and glutathione in the live, lipid peroxidase (GSH-PX) activity, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and lipid peroxide Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were measured, pathological changes of liver were observed, the liver weight was also measured to calculate the liver index. Results: Compared to the model group, Carumcarvi L. water extract could significantly lowered the activity of ALT and AST and the levels of TC, TQLDL-C and MDA, increased the levels of SOD, LPL, HL and GSH-PX, and also effectively improved fatty degeneration in liver of the hyperlipemia rats. Conclusion:Carumcarvi L. water extract, especially the high dose group has obvious effects of blood lipid regulation and liver protection, which is mostly related to enhancement of antioxidant ability and hepatic lipoprotein lipase activity and inhibition of adipogenesis.
