Objective:The autonomic nervous system is an important pathway of acupuncture on regulating intestinal movement.Different stimulation intensities can affect different acupuncture effects. In this study, all drugs(autonomic never agonists or antagonists) were administered through the jugular veins resulting in rat jejunum in normal, hyperactivity or hypomotility condition, and electroacupunctured at Tianshu(ST25) with different stimulation intensities, observing the changes of jejunal pressure. This study was designed to investigate the possible autonomic mechanism of electroacupuncture(EA) at ST25(Tianshu) on small intestinal motility and the relationship between the effects and stimulation intensities.Methods:225weighing180g~230g adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into two parts. The first part of the75SD rats were randomly divided into five groups:normal group, propranolol group, clenbuterol group, acetylcholine, atropine group and15rats of every group, the intensite of EA stimulation is3mA, and EA frequency is2/15HZ. The second part of the150rats were devided into the normal group and acetylcholine groups (further divided into five groups, each group15was given1mA,3mA,5mA,7mA,9mA,2/15HZ amount of stimulation). Bladders connected the pressure sensor detects was placed in the jejunum, jejunual pressure and the amplitude and frequency of the jejununal movements were observed. When jejunual pressure in steady,EA at Tianshu for2minutes according to the above intensities of stimulation.Recorde the jejunuai pressure values of before/after administered, before/aftering EA to do statistical analysis.Results:(1) the normal group and the acetylcholine group,EA at Tianshu with3mA,2/15HZ, can inhibit jejunum movement (P<0.05). In the propranolol group, clenbuterol group and atropine group EA at Tianshu, there was no changes in jejunual pressure(P>0.05).(2) the normal group and acetylcholine group, EA with3mA at Tianshu can slightly inhibit jejunual motility (P<0.05); When the stimulution was5or7or9mA can obviously inhibit the jejunum motility (P<0.01); when the body in hyperactive state there need an stronger stimulation intensity to produce the same effect as when the body in normal’s.Conclusion:(1) EA at Tianshu can inhibit the jejunal motility, and when jejuna in normal and hyperactive state, the inhibitory effect is more obvious; when in hypomotility, the inhibitory effect is not obvious.(2) Electroacupuncture stimulation at ST25inhibits rat’s jejunal motility mainly via sympathetic nervous.(3) The stimulation intensities can affect different inhibitory effect.1mA can not produce any inhibitory effect,3mA produce slightly inhibitory effect, and5,7,9mA in control group and Acetylcholine administration group can produce a significant inhibitory effect;when the body in hyperactive state there need an stronger stimulation intensity to produce the same effect as when the body in normal’s.
