Objectives1. To examine the reliability and validity of the Connor-Davidson ResilienceScale in nurses in China.2. To describe emergency nurses resilience status and its influencing factors.Methods1. A total of542nurses were randomly divided into2groups using randomnumber table. One group was used to revise CD-RISC and the other to evaluate itsreliability and validity.2. From May to August2013,240questionnaires were distributed to allemergency registered nurses working in six tertiary hospitals of Zhengzhou and at thesame time260outpatient nurses were extracted as as a reference. The questionnairesof the revised Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale(CD-RISC), General Self-efficacyScale(GSES), Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire(SCSQ), Perceived SocialSupport Scale(PSSS) to measure resilience, self-efficacy, social support, and coping styles. SPSS (version17.0) was used for statistic description. The statisticalmethods include statistical description, univariate analysis and multiple linearregression analysis.Results1. The revised scale including23items and3factors, which are tenacityadaptation, and goal. The scale meets psychometric requirements that can be used asa measurement tool of nurse psychological assessment.2. The average score of resilience of emergency nurses was56.93±15.06andthe average score of resilience of outpatient nurses was53.12±10.99, the differencehas statistical significance (P <0.001). Adaptive and goal two dimension scores werehigher than outpatient nurses, the difference has statistical significance (P <0.001).3. Age influence on resilience score in the analysis of variance was statisticallysignificant (P <0.05), in tenacity dimension also statistically significant (P <0.05);work experience on resilience score in the analysis of variance was statisticallysignificant (P <0.01), the other three dimensions (tenacity, adaptation, goal) werestatistically significant (P <0.01).4. The level of resilience was positively correlated with social support(r=0.669, P <0.01), self-efficacy (r=0.596, P <0.01),. The level of resilience waspositive correlation with positive coping style (r=0.680, P <0.01).5There were obvious difference on self efficacy, social support and alldimensions and positive coping style between CD-RISC high score group andCD-RISC low group (P <0.001).6. The main influence factors for resilience in emergency nurses wereself-efficacy, social support and positive coping style. The variables of self efficacy, social support and positive coping style were positive prediction factors and allvariables entering the model could explain63.4%of the variance of resilience. Thesocial support alone can explain46%of the variance of resilience and it means that itis the main predictor for resilience. Conclusion1. The revised scale is suitable to assess the resilience of nurses.2. As a whole, the resilience of emergency nurses is higher than outpatientnurses, while some emergency nurses score low.3. The main influence factors for resilience in emergency nurses wereage, work experience,self-efficacy, social support and positive coping style.
