ObjectiveThe paper focuses on finding out the history of Local Multi-needling Treatment by reading the old books and searching for the clinical application of Local Multi-needling Treatment through literature review.MethodsFirst, collecting the ancient books recorded on local multi-needling treatment, searching for the record about its development in different dynasties. Secondly, with the help of computer, searching for the literatures on multi-needling treatment reported by modern acupuncturists, and then select the names of the diseases and its rules of acupoint selection, keep these data in Excel form, list out charts basing on these data, in order to find out some rules or principles on multi-needling treatment in common.Results1. Multi-needling treatment was first recorded in Huangding neijing. Since that, the acupuncturists explained the record on and on according to their experience. In the modern society, multi-needling treatment was widely reported, such as surrounding-needling, double needling, tri-needling, cluster needling.2. The study searches935pieces of documents on multi-needling treatment, and they shows that multi-needling treatment was widely used in diseases of orthopedics and traumatology(such as lateral epicondylitis), neurology (such as stroke), dermatology (such as herpes zoster) and so on.3.926pieces of the documents shows that the local acupoints were widely selected in multi-needling treatment.Conelusion 1. Local multi-needling treatment has a long history, according to the ancient books, its formation was known from the Spring and Autumn Period to the Qin and Han dynasties. Since that, multi-needling treatment was passed on and on during different dynasties without new development. In modern society, multi-needling was widely used with some new explanations and methods.2. Local multi-needling treatment is mainly used for orthopedic injury muscle disorders, cerebrovascular disease, neuralgia. The common characteristic of these diseases:(1)The etiology and pathogenesis:injury or chronic strain, exogenous pathogenic cold/dampness/heat, qi and blood deficiency.(2)The lesion:clear and fixed lesion on a local part of the body, limited range of the lesion.(3)Clinical manifestation:pain, dysfunction including sensory disturbance and movement disorders.(4)Disease progression:mainly with chronic conditions and long duration.3. Local acupoints indicate the location of the lesion, so on acupoint selection, local selection rule becomes the most popular one.
