Objective:To investigate the clinical utility of combined detection of serum tumor markers CEA and CA19-9in the follow-up of postoperative gastric cancer.Methods:271patients who were treated with gastric cancer in our hospital from January2008to December2010were enrolled, The CEA and CA19-9were detected with chemiluminescence immunoassay in gastric cancer patients. Analyzing the difference of detect a single tumor markers and the combined detection of two tumor markers in sensitivity for the gastric cancer. The correlation between serum CEA/CA19-9levels and clinicopathologic characteristics were investigated. When combined detection with CEA and CA19-9, according to the results, the patients were classified into four groups:CEA (-)/CA19-9(-), CEA (+)/CA19-9(-), CEA (-)/CA19-9(+) and CEA (+)/CA19-9(+). The survival rates were calculated by Kaplan-Meier method, differences between survival curves were examined with log-rank test, and univariate analysis was performed using Chi-square (χ2) test. Results:The positive rates for CEA and CA19-9were17.89%and18.58%, retrospectively. The CEA positivity was related to the depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and stage of cancer. The CA19-9positivity was significantly related to the depth of invasion, lymph nodal status and stage. The positive rate of combined assay of CEA and CA19-9was30.09%. There were statistical significance for the stage, as well as the depth of invasion and the degree of lymph node metastasis in CEA (-)/CA19-9(+) group compared with CEA (+)/CA19-9(-) group (P<0.05). When combined detection with CEA and CA19-9, both as the positive group patient survival was far lower than the single positive group. The patients survival was lower in CEA (-)/CA19-9(+) group compared with CEA (+)/CA19-9(-) group. Differences were considered statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion:Combined detection of serum tumor markers CEA and CA19-9in the follow-up of postoperative gastric cancer, with C A-199positive suggests poorer prognosis.(2行)...
