Objective: To discuss the pulmonary function characteristics of children withchronic cough in the way of test the pulmonary function of patients in the NEP methodand FVC method respectively, and to discuss the feasibility of the application of NEPmethod. Test the differences and correlations of the two methods. Methods: Conduct a before-after study.56children with chronic cough wereselected who were all been to children’s hospital of dalian between sep.2010andsep.2013.All the children were separated in NEP group and FVC group; with differentage and degree of cooperation, we set two age groups:3~5yrs and6~11yrs. Use NEPand FVC methods to test the pulmonary function successively of every children.Results:1.56cases children with chronic cough,56patients completed the NEP assay, thecompletion rate was100%,48patients completed the FVC assay, the completion ratewas85.7%, NEP method was higher than that of the FVC method, difference hasstatistical significance;35cases children with chronic cough in3to5year old agegroup,35patients completed the NEP assay, the completion rate was100%,29patientscompleted the FVC assay, the completion rate was82.8%, NEP method was higher thanthat of the FVC method, significant difference, there was statistical significance.2. Among48children with chronic cough,25(52℅) children pulmonary functionwas completely normal;14(29℅) children small airway function was retrogressed; 6(13℅) children had obstructive airway function and3(6℅) children had bothobstructiveand restrictive state.3. Among56children with chronic cough,21(37.5℅) children had no expiratoryflow limitation;35(62.5℅) children had expiratory flow limitation, Within these35patients,25(71.4℅) children had mild expiratory flow limitation,10(28.6℅) patient hadsevere expiratory flow limitation.4.56cases children with chronic cough,35cases had expiratory flow limitation, theEFL before and after relaxation test score by Wilcoxon signed rank test, T=91, P<0.01, significantly, there was statistical significance.5. The difference between NEP and FVE1by chi square test, P<0.05,significantly, had statistical significance; The difference between NEP and detection ofsmall airway function by chi square test, P>0.05, the difference was not significant, had not statistical significance6.By using Spearman rank correlation analysis, there was significant Negativecorrelation between Routine pulmonary function indexes and expiratory flow limitation(P <0.01),significantly, there was statistical significance.Conclusion:1. Pulmonary function test plays an important role in the diagnosis and differentialdiagnosis of chronic cough in children, the1/5of chronic cough in children with mildpulmonary function abnormalities, can be diagnosed as CVA;3/10in children withchronic cough in small airway function, can be suspected as CVA.2. NEP and FVC methods can better applied in children of pulmonary functiontesting with chronic cough; NEP method is feasible and better sensitivity than FVCmethod, especially for the poor with3~5years old children, opened up a new way ofpulmonary function test for3to5year old age group children.3.The NEP method has the feasibility in bronchial dilation test, but the positivecriteria needs further study.
