Clinical Comparison Research Of Acupoint Catgut Embedding Therapy And Acupoint Application Therapy On Allergic Rhinitis

ObjectiveThis research aims to explor a good effect, less side effect, simple and reliable acupuncture therapy for the treatment of allergic rhinitis through comparing the effect between acupoint catgut embedding therapy and acupoint application therapy on allergic rhinitis.Methods60patients with allergic rhinitis met the inclusion criteria were randomized into30cases of point catgut embedding group and30cases of point application group, point catgut embedding group selected the acupoints of FeiShu(BL13),ErMen(SJ21) and Zusanli(ST36). point application group selected the acupoints of DaZhui (DU14), FeiShu (BL13), FengMen(BL12), GaoHuang(BL43). Two groups both selected the bilateral acupoints. Catgut embedding group treatment wsa once a week and point application group was twice a week. Both lasted for4weeks and4weeks was a course of treatment. Tow groups were scored by Signs and symptoms after treatments for2weeks and4weeks and evaluated the recurrence rate after4weeks treatmentsResultsThere were tow patients withdrew from acupoint application treatment. One case was for sticking allergy and another was for the temporary on business. There were no patients withdrew from catgut embedding group. So there were30patients included in the catgut embedding group and28patients included in the acupoint application group. Before treatment two groups of patients in gender, age, course of the disease were tested by the chi-square test and there were no statistically significant difference (P>0.05), so the two groups were comparable. After2weeks treatment, the markedly effective was17case, the effective was9case and the total efficiency was86.67%in the catgut embedding group, while the markedly effective was8case, the effective was10case and the total efficiency was64.28%in the acupoint application group.After the ststistical Ridit test, the total effective rate had significant difference between the tow groups (P<0.05). After4weeks treatment, the markedly effective was20case, the effective was9case and the total efficiency was96.67%in the catgut embedding group, while the markedly effective was12case, the effective was13case and the total efficiency was89.29%in the acupoint application group. After the ststistical Ridit test, the total effective rate had no difference(P>0.05). After the chi-square test, the markedly effective rate had no difference (P>0.05).After2weeks and4weeks treatment the total score were significantly lower compared with before treatment. Checking by the paired T test, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Compared between groups, After2weeks treatment the catgut embedding group improved symptoms and signs better than acupoint application group(P<0.05), while after4weeks treatment, two groups of improving symptoms and signs had no differene.Follow-up for1month after treatment, the catgut embedding group recurrence rate was6.67%and the acupoint application group recurrence rate21.43%. Checking by statistical tests, the recurrence rate had significant difference(P<0.05).There were no adverse case occurred in the catgut embedding group and1case in the acupoint application group,while it had no significant difference(P>0.05). ConclusionsThis research showed that:the acupoint catgut embedding therapy and acupoint application therapy were safe and effective; after tow weeks treatment the catgut embedding group curative effect was better than that of acupoint application group, meanwhile catgut embedding group relieving symptoms and signs was superior to acupoint application group;After4weeks treatment, the tow groups had no significant difference in the curative effect and relieving symptoms and signs;after2weeks and4weeks treatment the score of symptoms and signs was significantly decreased, and after4weeks treatment the total score is lower than after2weeks treatment;the catgut embedding group recurrence rate was lower than the acupoint application group;comprehensive view, the acupoint catgut embedding therapy and acupoint application therapy both shoud to be promoted, while the acupoint catgut embedding therapy was more suitable for morden fast-paced life.
