In Shandong Province, corn and wheat are always planted in a year, the area of the two crops is more than 43,000,000 mu. Wheat subsoiling precision wide no-till seeding technology was popularized by the agricultural sector. This technology required the corn straw returning machine to produce high-quality products. The quality of the straw which was returned to the land directly affected the sowing quality of wheat no-till planter. Simultaneously,straw returning can make the soil to be fertile, improve the soil’s physical properties, improve preserving soil moisture storage capacity, increase food production and so on. There are also good ecological benefits for the environment. Its significance for the development of sustainable agriculture is very important.In the current market, the straw returning machine which was added on the corn harvester has two main issues. One is that the quality of the straw which was returned to the land is low. Farmers have to work again. The other is that the thrown knives of straw returning machine can easily hit the soil, which consumes too much power. In order to solve the problems, integration of Shandong Province Corn planting agricultural requirements, this paper designed a kind of Straw Return Machine which could cut and smash corn stalks, depending on domestic and foreign advanced technology. This machine was cooperated with corn harvester and mounted before the wheels and under cutting table.During the design process,using three-dimensional design software UG10.0, we established a virtual three-dimensional model of the machine. The second chapter described in detail and explained the overall structure of the machine design, working principle, and transmission design and terrain clearance copying system. Cutting device and crushing device were the key component of the work. Their performance directly affected the efficiency and quality of straw returning work. On the basis of the three-dimensional design, using ANSYS and ADAMS software, this article made finite element analysis and kinematic analysis for critical parts. This article also introduced other parts of the structure.After completing virtual prototype design, we created a physical prototype. In cooperation with the Shandong Guofeng Machinery Co., Ltd., we produced the first-generation prototype and the machine was tested in experimental plots. For the problems identified, this article used ADAMS and ANSYS conducting a simulation of hard and soft coupling arrangement between straw returning machine and corn stalks. After finding out the cause of the problem, we improved the machine. Then we entrusted Shandong Agricultural Machinery Products Quality Supervision and Inspection Station to make performance test in experimental plot in Jining city in Shandong province. Inspection reports showed that the straw returning machine had good operating performance and the performance indicators were to meet the design criteria. It laid the foundation for further technology improvement and promotion.This paper further proposed research directions and ideas about corn straw returning machine, providing a reference for researchers design ideas.
