Residential area is the main place to people’s life, The study on the diversity of garden plant in residential area can provide a reference for the development of plant diversity planning and plant landscape heterogeneity and diversity of urban ecosystem in Weihai residential area. In this paper,18 residential areas were invested to study the plant diversity and plant landscape of the residential area. Using the SPSS to analyze the correlation between plant diversity and the soci-economic factors. The results were concluded as following:1.Landscape plants presented the diversity of characteristics in green lands in Weihai city: There were 162 kinds of landscape plant species in urban green lands of Weihai city, in total. There were 148 angiosperms and 14 gymnosperms. Including 54 woody plants.68 flowering shrub plants and 37 ground cover plants and 3 lianas. The proportion of trees and shrubs was 1:1.23, the proportion of deciduous plants and evergreen plants was 6.14:1, the proportion of trees, shrubs and ground cover plants was 1.45:1.84:1.2.The proportion of native plants:exotic plants in the residential green space is 1:1.57, the proportion of exotic plants is higher, reaching 73%. In plant species, the proportion of rose family is the largest, the legume is second,which can accounted for 23% of all plant species, the Weihai residential green landscape has a high degree of similarity.3.The plant diversity index terms are flowering shrub> arbor> ground cover plants, all of the residential area, Jiaxiang Jingyuan is the highest comprehensive in diversity index, the Hong Wu community and Bu Gu Kuang community are the lowest.4. Social and economic factors have a certain correlation with the plant diversity of residential green space, which has the most significant effect on the rate of greening. It has significant positive correlation with the biological diversity index of green space plant, and can significantly affect the biological diversity of residential community. There is a certain correlation between house price, volume ratio, property fee and the diversity of the whole residential green space. The price and the species richness of the plant are significantly positively correlated with the volume ratio and the uniformity of the plant.
