In this paper, Notopterygium forbesii Boiss. was selected as material. In order to explore adaptive area, reasonable planting density and the best harvest time of Notopterygium forbesii Boiss., the content of effective constituents in Notopterygium forbesii Boiss from different areas was compared, analyzed the relationship between growth index and the effective components on planting density and effects of yield and quality on harvest time of Notopterygium forbesii Boiss. The main results are as follows:1. The study of the content of isoimperatorin, notopterol and ferulic acid in notopterygium samples from different regions showed that: Isoimperatorin and ferulic acid contents in 1520 m Notopterygium incisum was the highest, 2.13% and 0.36%; In 3350 m Notopterygium incisum took second; In 2530 m Notopterygium incisum was the lowest; the content of notopterol in three Notopterygium incisum samples had a little difference, but that was a slightly higher in 3350 m Notopterygium incisum.2. The study of planting density showed that there were obvious effects on survived rate, growth period index, LAI and LAD, individual quality indicators, yield, quality and economic benefit by different transplanting density.Suitable transplanting density could improve the survival rate, density significantly reduced survival rate. With the density further increased, the plant showed decrease in plant height, root length, the lateral roots, the size of leaves even the weight of per root. As transplanting distance increased, the Notopterygium incisum yield increased significantly. When planting distance was 20 cm, the yield was highest. When planting distance was more than the highest point, economic benefits would be reduced.Appropriate transplanting density was an important role to improve the quality of medicinal materials. Small effects of transplanting density could affect medicinal herbs extract and volatile oil content. As the transplanting density increasing, the extract and the content of volatile oil in Notopterygium incisum could significantly improve. The seedlings were excellent under the 20 cm and 25 cm of row and plant space showing healthy growth and developed roots resulting in outstanding production and economic benefits, suggesting the density at the level of 116250 plants per hectare with 200 cm and 25 cm of row and plant space was suitable for the production of Notopterygium incisum in Tianzhu, ensured the best production and economic benefits.3. The study of year and harvest time showed that there are big differences for yield, quality and economic benefit in different growth years. The appropriate growth years and harvest time could improve the yield and quality of Notopterygium incisum.Individual quality indicators of Notopterygium incisum grew rapidly after 4 years. Both yield and quality of Notopterygium incisum were the best in this period. The fourth year planting Notopterygium incisum were the best in production with the harvest duration from September 15 th to October 15 th. In early October, both yield and quality of Notopterygium incisum were the best.
