The spade punch planter of maize(SPPM)is combined by the spade soil openerand the metering device. By using the spade soil opener to dig a hole and the meteringdevice to realize the process of seed, the working process of SPPM was completed.Using SPPM as the research object,the design of SPPM was improved base on thediscrete element method (DEM) to simulate the working process.On the basis of the analysis of the structural features and working process of SPPM,the two-dimensional simplified models of the soil opener and the metering device werebuilt respectively by AutoCAD. The two-dimensional simplified models were addedmovement properties and material properties through the Object ARX secondarydevelopment technologies. Two-dimensional DEM simulation program of SPPM wascreated by using Access database technology and VC++software developmentplatform.Adopting the linear contact stiffness model as the basic model, the sliding model toreflect the constitutive relation of soil particles, and the parallel constraint model tocharacterize the effect of bonding force between soil particles, the mechanical model ofsoil particles based on the structure characteristics of the soil particles was established.Application of DEM analysis method, the soil dynamic breaking process of the spadesoil opener was analyzed by two-dimensional DEM simulation program of SPPM. Thesimulation results revealed the movement of the soil particles and the law of the soilparticles sliding failure.Through the theoretical research about process of throwing corn seeds, the relationof working velocity, seed throwing angle and the working performance of SPPM werestudied. The kind of seed throwing angle and working velocity were determined bytwo-dimensional DEM simulation program of the throwing corn seeds process.By using the three-dimensional model of SPPM as the research object, the workingprocess of SPPM was simulated by discrete element software EDEM. The calculationresults were investigated by using the particle contact, particle velocity, particle chain.The performances of punch planter were proved reasonably through the comparison between three-dimensional simulation results and two-dimensional simulation results.Research shows that working process DEM simulation analysis of SPPM canachieve the design of the high quality and low cost, which provides a new method tostudy the spade punch planter.
