Abstract/Summary:
Bryophytes are species group in greening, especially in vertical green for their special morphological and growth characteristics. In order to apply bryophyte to conduct vertical greening in cities, we conduct the following works in the present paper.Six ornamental mosses(Campylopus flexuosus, Hypnum plumaeforme, Racomitrium japonicum, Thuidium cymbifolium, Grimmia pilifera and Dicranum scoparium) were transplanted onto vertical planting carrier(a palm pad with a thin layer of peat and vermiculite). After a two-month cultivation, their new branch coverage, newly-developed branches and their ratio with old branches, fresh weight, chlorophyll content, and maximal photochemical efficiency were measured. Based on these indices, an integrated index revealing their growth capacity was calculated. It turned out that the vertical planting carriers is practicable and based on their integrated indices from high to low, six mosses were ranked as Hypnum plumaeforme, Racomitrium japonicum, Thuidium cymbifolium, Campylopus flexuosus, Dicranum scoparium, Grimmia pilifera. Finally, Hypnum plumaeforme, Racomitrium japonicum were recommended as ornamental mosses in vertical greening combined our observation on their landscape values. In order to explore the growth of moss after broken stem on the vertical greening carrier, we sow gametophytic fragments of five acrocarpous mosses(Bryum bicolor. Rosulabryum capillare, Barbula rufidula, Racomitrum japonicum, Weissia edentula) onto vertical planting carriers, respectively. The vertical planting carriers are palm pads with a thin layer of peat and vermiculite, which were placed in a humid greenhouse with 80% relative humidity. After a 40-day cultivation, their cushions formed and closely integrated with the matrix on vertical green carriers. The gametophytic coverage, length, fresh weight and dry weight were measured. By using a Win Rhizo root system analyzer, the total area and volume were also determined. Based on the above indices, an integrated index was calculated to reveal their reproduction capacity. based on their integrated indices from high to low, five mosses were ranked as Racomitrum japonicum, Rosulabryum, Weissia edentula, Barbula rufidula amd Bryumbicolor. In the previous study, Racomitrium japonicum showed its growth advantage, therefore, we continue to experiment to determine its optimal growth conditions by changing the light conditions, moisture, the strength of broken stem and nutrient solution, The results are as follows: avoid around 330 lx or lower light conditions, try to choose strong light position; Racomitrum japonicum cultivation of soil water content should be controlled at about 55%; Applied in breed broken stem, stem length is about 5 mm fragments of the gametophyte has relatively ideal breeding effect; Dilution of 0.5 times to 0.2 times dilution Knop ’s culture medium have the best promoting effect on broken stem Racomitrium japonicum, Dilution of 0.5 times of the improved Beneck medium also promote the breeding of broken stem Racomitrium japonicum.By in Situ observation, eight acrocarpous mosses including Racomitrium japonicum, Bryum pallescens, Philonotis fontana, Plagiomnium cupsidatum, Hyophila spathulata, Grimmia pilifera, Dicranum scoparium and Pogonatum akitense were investigated in Situ to determine their growth conditions, and finding they are able to grow well in wild environment in the suburb of Shanghai. Therefore, it is possible for us to apply them to conduct outdoor vertical greening in the area.Based on the above work, two invention patents in relation to moss aisle and moss wall with e vertical greening carriers were proposed.
