With the development of smart grid, its informatization, intellectualized degree is higher and higher, the resulting flow of all kinds of new techniques such as user demand side response, load forecasting, home appliance recognition, peak scheduling, power big data continues to promote the development of the smart grid development. To support all kinds of new technology can effectively play a role in the smart grid, requires gathering more and more detailed user side and distribution side of the original data, some technology also need through a lot of power grid and the user’s two-way communication to effectively implement, so smart meters will need to have a strong function of data acquisition, processing, storage, forwarding, but it makes the cost of the smart meter has risen sharply, the volume becomes big; At the same time, the current meter communication makes forward in such a large amount of data, produces the network congestion and intolerable delay which makes the whole further development is restricted by the smart grid.In order to solve the problem in this paper, the software thought and framework of definition network is introduced into the smart grid, through the application of smart meters to complete the architecture design. Software defined the structure of the forward separation in the network system, and can solve the data in the smart grid development demand, while guarantee the smart meters costs don’t rise too much can send a lot of information to the top equipment analysis processing; Its flow chart type fast forwarding method can alleviate because of the increase of the amount of information to the entire network burden; The programmable control method makes the top equipment with the underlying interaction becomes more flexible; Its layers of centralized control architecture can be solved at present in the distributed network construction scale and the high operational costs and difficult to achieve unified control problem.In order to explain the design train of thought better, based on the smart meters in the application of smart grid, a distributed energy optimization control for specific explanation. The third and fourth chapter introduces the application of this structure design and process design respectively. The proposed design in the potential of the smart grid development is shown in this paper.
