| With more and more advanced science and technology widely applied to the power grid, in recent years, intelligence and automation has become an irresistible developing trend of power grid. As the basic component of an important integral portion of the smart grid, smart meter has more functions than the traditional watt- hour meter, such as energy metering, information storage and processing, network communications, real-time monitoring, automatic control, human-computer interaction and so on. Meanwhile, as an emerging thing, the function of smart meter is more complex, and its responsibility is more important. Therefore, it is essential to study the smart meter technology in detail.This paper first analyzes the significance and the application prospect of smart meter in the construction of smart grid, then the research status on smart meter technology has carried on the detailed summary. Secondly, through the in-depth discussion of smart meter technology, the basic principle, main characteristics of smart meter and the key technology of smart meter and so on has carried on the detailed analysis. Then mainly introduces the quality control organization system and organization system management and control of smart meter, which focuses on the organizational system management and control, the various parts of duty, the rotation and sample management approach energy metering devices, energy meter device failure, error handling approach.
