Exhibition industry originated in Europe has more than 400 years’ history, which has gradually formed a new economic form. Exhibition is an emerging service mode for C hina. Exhibition industry is generally believed that it has powerful ability of promoting economic which achieve the proportion of 1:10 by most experts of exhibition industry. Many western countries compare regard exhibition industry as bread of city. Meanwhile, exhibition industry is an industry of pollution- free that can not only bring great economic benefits for city, but enrich people’s spiritual culture, which plays an important role in propaganda、 industry planning、 technical progress、 investment promotion、 image creation of city. Therefore, there are increasing number of cities of C hina paying great efforts for developing exhibition industry, and rush to become exhibition city of China. However, except first-tier cities, like Beijing、 Shanghai、 Guangzhou, has built comprehensive development strategy of exhibition in China, other second-tier cities has not reached an agreement on how to make a suitable policy of developing exhibition industry for their own. Therefore, How to develop exhibition in second-tier cities is becoming hot spot of research. According to the C hinese exhibition index report of 2012, C hengdu has become the top one city of C hina which got 311.5 that is twice as the national average, in addition, as for number of exhibition and e xhibition area, C hengdu ranked the fifth. Chengdu has become the first choice for most important exhibition in the west of China. Therefore, C hengdu is most representative city of all second-tier cities that develop exhibition industry in China, whose strategy of developing exhibition can become a reference for other second-tier cities. Meanwhile, we can find that some second-tier cities has drown in misdirection that they think the more exhibition hall, the better exhibition industry, which is unrealistic and totally wrong cognition. It may lead to serious consequences such as leaving many exhibition hall that has no exhibition to hold and stop exhibition industry from getting progress. Therefore, we must comb some successful strategy of developing exhibition industry of some exhibition cities when discuss how to develop exhibition industry for second-tier cities.Based on the above understanding, this thesis will analyse many documents related to exhibition developing strategy, and find advantage and disadvantage of Chengdu for developing exhibition industry by comparing C hengdu with Shanghai、 Guangzhou. Meanwhile, author will visit Chengdu Exhibition Bureau to find comprehensive information of policy and strategy for developing exhibition industry. At last, this thesis will summarize the “C hengdu Mode” for developing exhibition industry by some theory like diamond model 、 regional linkage mechanism, combining with statistics of exhibition industry of Chengdu a nd give some suggestion for other second-tier cities.
