Study On Distribution Of Industrial And Mining Industry In Three Gorges Area In Modern

It was of great importance for the national economy to coordinate the econimic development in Three Gorges Area of Yangtze River since the construction of the Three Gorges Project. This paper studies the development and distribution of modern industries and mining and sorts out its regular pattern in Three Gorges Area of Yangtze River, which helps people to have a better understanding on this issue and sheds some light on how to coordinate the econimic development in Three Gorges Area of Yangtze River. Besides, the development and distribution of modern indutries and mining is part of the history of Three Gorges Area. Better understanding will make the history of Three Gorges Area more prosperous and colorful so as to show the full picture of it to the world.Since the foundation of the People’s Republic of China, scholars attach great importance to study morden industries and mining and get fruitful results. However, current study result is either reflect the development of modern industries and mining in overall China, or focuses on a few areas which has developed indutries and mining. On one hand, studies focusing on modern industries and mining in Three Gorges Area of Yangtze River are relatively deficient; on the other hand, there is barely paper elaborating on modern industries and mining in Three Gorges Area of Yangtze River from the perspective of historical geography. Thus, in order to fill in the blanks, this paper studies the development and distribution of modern industries and mining in Three Gorges Area of Yangtze River from perspective of historical geography. Meanwhile, this paper attempts to explore the distribution characteristics based on the development of modern industries and mining in Three Gorges Area of Yangtze River.The study scope of this paper:"Modern industries and mining in Three Gorges Area of Yangtze River". In view of time, "modern times" refers to the period from 1840 to 1949. Two historical events influenced the development of indutries and mining in this area, namely:the foundation of Republic of China and the settlement of national government in Chongqing during the Anti-Japanese War period. Therefore, "modern times"in this paper will be divided into early, middle and later part based on these two events. Early part is from 1840 to 1911; middle part is from 1912 to 1937; later part is from 1938 to 1949. In view of space, "Three Gorges Area of Yangtze River" includes the following area:Chongqing urban areas(Yuzhong district, Jiangbei district, Nan’an district, Shapingba district, Jiulongpo district, Dadukou district, Beibei district, Yubei district and Banan district.),Fulin district, Changshou district, Fengdu county, Dianjiang county, Liangping county, Shizhu county, Wanzhou district, Yunyang county, Kai county, Wushan county, Wuxi county and Yichang, Badong, Zhigui and Xingshan in Hubei Province. In view of study object, "industries and mining" refers to main modern industries and mining in this area, part of traditional handicraft industries are also included.This paper explores the distribution of main modern industries and mining in Three Gorges Area of Yangtze River from the perspective of historical geography by consulting relevant papers, works, statistic data and local chronicles. By analyzing the development of that area’s industries and mining, it concludes the following evolution pattern of the modern industries and mining in Three Gorges Area of Yangtze River: 1 The industries and mining in Three Gorges Area of Yangtze River went through four phases: the initial phase, slow development, rapid growth and overall recession.2 Different areas in Three Gorges Area of Yangtze River are inconsistent inview of the time of germinating and developing of industries and mining in the early and middle part of modern times.3 In the later part of modern times, industries and mining in different areas have different level of rapid growth and overall recession. There are exceptions for some areas.distribution characteristics is as follows:1 Modern indutries and mining in Three Gorges Area of Yangtze River started from trading port and spreaded to the surrounding areas.2 The distribution of mining industry is constraint by the mineral storage and consumption ability.3 Contribute to the special historical opportunity, Chongqing has become the biggest industrial and mineral city in the Three Gorges Area of Yangtze River.4 With the development of industries and mining, Wan County has become regional center city.5 Special geographical environment of Three Gorges Area of Yangtze River leads to industries and mining spread along the Yangtz River and its brunches.Besides, this paper provides a distribution chart of the industries and mining in Three Gorges Area of Yangtze River by adopting statistic method and map information technology.
