Though our country has an extensive construction market, construction industry shows its disadvantages of low-efficiency, loss information and lagging in construction technique. However, the emergence of BIM brings construction industry hope. BIM, which centers on visualization, coordination, integration of information, runs through the whole life circle of buildings, can greatly improve the project quality and the production efficiency.Bridge engineering as an important branch of civil construction industry should seize the changed period which was brought by BIM. The key to the application of BIM technology in bridge engineering is to build a three-dimensional information model of the bridge. Concentrating on methods of building bridge BIM model, this article has carried out the following studies:(1)Based on the introduction and summary of BIM technique theories, characteristics and application status, this article analyzed the advantages of BIM in multi-phases of bridge engineering project, then summarized the basic procedure of the modeling by using the modeling core software, Revit.(2)According to the characteristics of the bridge member and the different attributes of Revit family templates, this article found out the family templates which were used for keeping the constraint of position among the bridge member, then established the parameterized family library of bridge member by using the methods of nesting family.(3)The methods and skills of using Revit API were summarized by researching on the secondary development of Revit. The fuctions of achieving, filtering, editing and creating bridge family member were achieved through Revit API.(4)At last, this article summarized and compared two methods of modeling bridge based on secondary development. The feasibility of modeling methods were proved by modeling different types of bridge BIM models.
