Research On The Regional Architecture Creation Of Yan’an

Lots of regional signature architectures with inspiring culture heritage were reserved during the long-river of history in Mainland China. Regional architecture is a reflection of culture in area in terms of physical environment and natural landscaping. Distinct culture in different population and natural environments yielded unique regional architectures; furthermore, subjective mentality and objective behavior intensified variety of characteristic and culture significance, which had borne a blooming architecture all around the world. Yan’an, nominated in the first batch as Historical and Cultural City by State Council, whose architectural style was profoundly influenced by its historical heritage, but currently been challenged and replaced of its geographic feature of urban construction by the monotony of modern architecture in the globalization process.In this paper, architectural and urban design in Yan’an was studied. By literature collection, field research, documentation and summarization, and comparative analysis, preliminary framework was established. By studying in Yan’an Hotel expansion project and Yan’an Executive Leadership Academy of China, which are projects conducted by the studio of writer’s tutor, this paper analyzed the architectural creation of Yan’an under the background of regional culture, in order to come up with feasible methods and suggestions to solve the problems of regional architectural style inheritance faced by Yan’an.This paper contains six parts: the first part is introduction, touched with emphasis on research background, purposes, contents, frameworks and methods etc.; The second section systematically reviewed the development process and explorating and practicing phase of domestic regional architectural theory, and also analysed the factors that influenced the development of regional architecture of China. The third part briefly introduced Yan’an’s natural conditions and Revolutionary. It covered Yan’an Revolutionary period, to reform and opening up and reform and opening up after four periods; analyzed after the founding of New China Yan’an each period architectural features and examples of research. The forth part analyzed in-area architectures by studying in Yan’an Hotel expansion project and Yan’an Executive Leadership Academy of China as examples. The fifth section, based on Yan’an regioanl architectural creations, proposed five feasible measures such as inheriting traditional culture of Yan’an, building traditional architectural space, merging architectural styles of the past and new, refining and applying traditional architectural symbols, as well as persuing the material science application with local adaption. The sixth part is the conclusion of this research.
