Grisons, located in the Alps, is the largest canton of Switherland. Thecontemporary architecture there in recent years, Peter Zumthor as arepresentative, to seek self-characteristics, is gradually recognized by theconstruction sector across the regional and national boundaries.Through the2010winter break in this research, also drawings anddocuments to read, the author have a profound image in this area, that thecontemporary architecture and traditional houses form such a goodrelationship.A group of architects and engineers, rooted in the localcommunity, are making great contemporary architecture.This paper try to analyse the contemporary architecture creation there,using architecture by a number of architects there as the study cases, andwith understanding of the basic situation, characteristics and developmentprocess of traditional architecture there.This article will focus on two issues: the continuation and the expansionof the tradition in contemporary architecture creation.Analysis of continuationof the tradition mainly from the following aspects: the construction site andlayout, volume and scale, building materials and constructiontechnology, using of traditional architectural elements. The development andexpansion of tradition, mainly around the development of materials andconstruction methods, flexibility of architecture space, simplificationand expansion of the traditional elements, as well as breaking through ofarchitectural design methods.The purposes of this study hopes to play some reference for ourarchitect,especially their attitude to tradition.
