Research On Chinese Architects And Regional Architecture Creation

Nearly a hundred years of development history of modern Chinese architecture in some way can be taken as a history of Chinese architects exploring the regional architecture creation with Chinese characteristics, from“China’s natural style”in 1920s and“national form”in 1950s to the pursuit for the modern expression of regional architecture in 1980s-1990s and the exploration for rational innovation of local architecture in the 21st century. Despite of great achievements during this period, Chinese architects have been troubled by“nationality”and“modernization”because of insufficient theoretical system. In the 21st century, Chinese architects still persevere with exploration and innovation of the local architecture under the environment of“globalization”and“internationalization”. However, with the diversified development of the architecture, the crisis is hidden in Chinese architecture creation, that is, style flooding, characteristics disappearing and culture losing. With the increasing internationalization of the construction market, when playing the game with international architects, Chinese architects stay at a disadvantage or even in the danger of being marginalized. Then for Chinese architects, how to develop innovatively the traditional Chinese architectural culture in the 21st century? How to survive in international competition? Now this paper will try to offer the answers.The paper vertically reviews the development of Chinese architects’thoughts in creating the regional architecture across the whole 20th century and horizontally makes the comparison between the regional architecture works of various architects. What is more, from the perspective of regional architecture creation, Chinese architects’thoughts in developing Chinese architecture in the past century are summarized and the creating methods on regional architecture with Chinese characteristics are classified and analyzed, with the purpose of guiding the regional architecture creation for Chinese architects in future.First of all, this paper offers the definition of Chinese architects and regional architecture and the deep analysis of the research significance and purpose. What’s more, the research framework is proposed and a brief review of current domestic researches is made in the paper. The main body is made up of three parts: general overview of Chinese architects and regional architecture creation; Chinese architects’thoughts and practice in Chinese regional architecture creation at various stages; modern Chinese architects’plight in regional architecture creation and their development trend.PartⅠChapter 2 makes a general overview of Chinese architects and regional architecture creation. In the first place, Chinese architect group’s constitution and characteristics are briefly introduced. Secondly, the development of Chinese architects’creation thoughts in regional architecture is divided into several historical stages. Thirdly, the paper makes a dialectical elaboration of the main factors that affect Chinese architects’creation of regional architecture from both internal and external aspects and the relationships between all factors and the architecture creation are made clear. The internal factors refer to the subject characteristics of the architects, including the education background, the age, the learning and cultivation, etc.. The external factors include such main aspects as the social background, the cultural background, the historical context and technical features and so on.PartⅡChapters from 3 to 7, which take the architects as the subject, carry out a detailed analysis of the development of Chinese architects’creation thoughts in regional architecture and make a systematic exposition of their achievements in theory and practice. This is not just a simple historical review, but to pursue the thought and human intelligence that promote the contemporary regional architecture creation in China, in the view of contemporary people and with today’s thinking in the regional architecture. Various Chinese architects’thought explorations in regional architecture creation are set in different chapters, enabling a detailed study on the backgrounds of the times, the society, the culture and the education of the architects, as well as their explored theories and practical achievements under these backgrounds.PartⅢOn the basis of previous chapters, Chapter 8 analyzes Chinese architects’plight in regional architecture creation from the aspects of contemporary architects’own limitations, the teaching system and the market-based creation environment. To promote the development of Chinese regional architecture creation, the paper explores and studies the Chinese architects’development trend in regional architecture creation. It is expected to cultivate the regionalism creation thought of Chinese architects from the aspects of cultivating themselves, improving the teaching system, implanting the traditional culture, etc.. At last, there comes a conclusion. The research achievements have been summarized and the prospect for regional architecture creation of Chinese contemporary architects has been made in this part.
