Research On Regional Characteristics And Creation Of Contemporary Museum In Shanxi And Shaanxi Province

Museum, the container of history and culture, is the most direct reflection of aregion, a country or even a nation’s history and culture. With the development andchanges in the global economy, architectures are losing their cultural identity andcharacteristics and this phenomenon has become increasingly prominent. We are facedwith the crisis that national, regional culture is weakened, ignored and even forgotten.Seeking innovation in convergence, and letting the regional architecture’s owncharacteristic flourish are an important interaction and research. As the most directreflection of a region or a city’s geographical and cultural characteristics, the design ofmuseums is supposed to fully reflect the geographic characteristics of the environmentand local culture. To fully reflect regional characteristics and expression is the essenceof architectural creation. Shanxi and Shaanxi, two provinces with rich historicalheritages, have their own characteristics that are different from many other areas.Therefore how to solve the problem of natural space design and how to fully reflectlocal cultural and historical features in the architecture design to, build a museum withgeographical characteristics–, these are the essence and purpose of the thought of"regional architecture", and also the right path of development for Shanxi and Shaanxi’sContemporary Museum.In this paper, Shanxi and Shaanxi’s Museum of Contemporary Architectures arechosen as the research subjects for the study and their geographical features is chosen to be as the starting point to explore the architects’ creative approach under the localnatural environment and cultural and historical factors. The main object of study is acomprehensive museum, History, Folklore Museum and the Museum of Art. S hanxiand Shaanxi are referred to as the cultural circle. The following research methods areadopted: typology, semiotics, phenomenology.In the first part of the paper, the background and trends of the two regions’museum are reviewed and the perspective of regional architecture is proposed and therelated theory is introduced. The second part of the paper analyzes the constraints ofbuilding regional characteristics in Shanxi and Shaanxi, from the natural, cultural andhistorical perspectives. Also in this section,the link among environment,architecture andculture are built and the core concept of building regional architectures in Shanxi andShaanxi is established, that is, adaptability concept. In the third part of the paper, thecreative design of the geographical characteristics of the two regions is learned fromboth the appearance and content. Moreover, the phenomenon is speculated..Furthermore, the principle of adaptability is proposed and the possible methods ofdesign is summarized.
