Urban Design Of Core Area In North Yan’an Based On Regional Culture

With the rapid development of the globalization and the urban economy, Our traditional culture is being rapidly decreasing because of the construction of the city.Local culture seems fragile in the face of strong forces of globalization, the city features and characteristics which has evolved decades or even centuries is gradually weakening, traditional forms and local fragment are also in danger of disappearing. Personalized labels between cities are increasingly weakening, thousands of city seem similar in our country.In the process of urban construction, urban design as an important skill is gradually being accepted by us. Unlike architecture, urban planning or landscape, urban design pay more attention on the link of them, it emphasize the environmental context, the spirit of place and local recognition. In the circumstance, Yan’an city has also ushered in a new opportunity. Development of the old town is restricted by the gorge topography, various types of urban problems are more severe. So the movement of opening up a new town began. The urban design of new town will try best to protect its special topography and traditional culture, the revival of traditional culture are also key elements of urban design.In this paper, starting with the urban design theory, and then focused on the regional culture in Yan’an,such as natural resources, cultural resources, traditional architecture. In the next I put forward the principles and strategies of regional urban design in north Yan’an.The practice of urban design combined the unique style of landscape environment and traditional ritual pattern, pay more attention on the spatial elements of district core area, including the administrative center of Yan’an, Yan’an Museum, Yan’an Grand Theatre, city squares, city streets and so on. Besides, we also need focus on the spatial order, including the sequence, style, context, material, balance, scale. Our purpose is urban design shall take into account the history, culture, human feelings, natural environment and some other regionalism features.
