Research On The Design Of Open City Cemetery Landscape

Cemetery is the destination of people’s life voyage. The development of interpersonal relationship, social environment, natural landscape, funeral culture and landscape art is reflected through cemeteries. With the continuous development of society, cemetery landscape design has gradually been paid attention by people. In the last decades, with the increased urbanization and population aging, cemetery development is becoming fiercer and fiercer. In addition, in order to cater to popular psychology, most of cemeteries are built in the urban area with beautiful scenery. As cities grow, a lot of cemeteries has been surrounded by cities. Due to the defects of design methods, these cemeteries maintain an enclosed state,influenced by domestic traditional funeral concept. People still maintain an evasive attitude towards cemeteries. And it is difficult for cemeteries and cities to integrate with each other.The State Council put forward to gradually open residential districts and unit communities. In principle, urban parks shall be open for residents for free. From these policies,it can be seen that China demands for a more open city environment. As a part of urban green space system, city cemetery shall also comply with the requirement of city environmental development and improve the environmental quality through increasing its own functions, so as to change the image in people’s mind. Therefore, this paper makes a research on how to build an open city cemetery landscape which can be received by urban residents and integrate with urban environment.Through an analysis of the cemetery characteristics and landscape elements, this paper puts forward a new cemetery landscape form, namely an open city cemetery landscape andsummarizes the characteristics of open city cemetery based on the analysis of the meaning of the open cemetery, obstacles existing in the open cemetery landscape and foreign open city cemetery design and put forwards quaternity design method, namely integration, convergence,traversal and connectivity to guide the design of the open city cemetery landscape. In the end,with the original ecological cemetery landscape design as the practical case, the author strives to blend in this design method to reflect the characteristics of the open city cemetery landscape and fully validate the feasibility of the theory.The construction of the open city cemeteries has positive significance for the improvement of the current urban environment and people’s living quality. In order to make cemetery become a part of the whole ecological environment, it shall be integrated into the urban green space, urban landscape and the lives of residents with basic burial function.
