Offical architecture and folk buildings are two different systems of traditional Chinese architecture due to the history of ancient Chinese society.The monumental halls in Canton, were the architecture of high classes in local places,whose constructions were influenced both by the official construction disciplines and by the folk skills.This article is to analyze the framework of 22 remaining monumental halls in Canton in three main aspects,such as the space, the form and the symbols, and to explain the intention of the construction in the perspective of the relationship of official architecture and folk buildings. Also to definte the position of the Cantonese monumental halls in the development of traditional Chinese architecture system, through comparision with monumental halls in Jiangnan and Fujian province.
