A System Of Creating Architecture Based On Aesthetics Of Music

“Architecture is frozen music”. This metaphor is widely used in theoretical researches and architecture practices to discuss the relationship between architecture and music. Though music is the art of auditory in the dimension of time while architecture is the art of visual in the dimension of space, both of them are highly abstract and strongly appeal. In the same period the concepts of time and space are alike and the senses of time and space could be transformed from each other. So people can feel changing space in music and rhythm in architecture.Nowadays there are many practices trying to transform the music into architecture. However due to the incomplete and superficial understanding of music and architecture and the limitation of the method of transformation, most of practices failed to show the aesthetics of the original musical in their final results of architecture. This research will study the history of music and architecture, analysis the relationship of their forms from the view of musical aesthetics. Based on the current background of digital techniques, diagrams are used as links between musical composition and architecture. Diagrams could help to analyze music and create buildings. There are three parts in this research:1. Compare the music and architecture in the same historical period, think about the influence of social culture and philosophy and conclude how they affected the development of each other.2. Start with the musical element and composition to analyze the relationship between the form of music and architecture. This is the theoretical bases of the architecture transformation.3. Transform <Music Offering> written by Johann Sebastian Bach, <Moonlight> written by Achille-Claude Debussy and Chinese ancient music <Stream> into architecture in digital ways.This research will rethink architecture and architecture design in the musical way. It will get the inspiration from music and apply to architecture design. The practice can make the relationship between architecture and music stronger.
