Design Strategies Research On The Healing Garden Of Alzheimer’s Patients

With China’s accelerating process of aging, Alzheimer’s disease has become the fourth leading cause of death of the elderly after heart disease, cancer and stroke. It has become a global public health problem. Under the background of the absence of particularly effective treatment method for this disease, through environmental intervention plays the role of adjuvant therapy in healing garden. As a new means of therapy, it has become a hot topic in the research on the landscape of international. The healing garden designs are more concentrated in developed countries,such small landscape research, landscape research in rehabilitation of Alzheimer’s disease in China is nearly blank.This paper in Alzheimer’s patients as the research object. Firstly, according to the researches which include analysis of three aspects of physical disabilities, mental disorder, conduct disorder, it can be concluded that the applicable non drug therapy for Alzheimer’s patients, which supports the theoretic basis for the Alzheimer’s patients of healing garden design.According to the theory as a guide, it is conducted that Alzheimer’s patients from hospital for the elderly of field survey and questionnaire survey, refining and and summarizes the current characteristics of its external environment, then interview the doctor, Alzheimer’s patients and their families and to investigate their outdoor activities, the outdoor environment and the outdoor environment, the demand, as the practice basis of Alzheimer’s patients healing garden design strategies.Based on the theoretical basis and field research, analysis of outstanding cases of foreign countries, from the aspects of space layout, garden landscape elements, it is summed up the design strategies of healing garden of Alzheimer’s patients.Finally, "environmental pressure theory", "health origin theory","feeling stimulation theory "rehabilitation theory are the guiding ideologies of design strategies research on healing garden of Alzheimer’s patients,comparing the demands,comprehensive landscape science, medicine, psychology and other disciplines of control patients with Alzheimer’s disease. It is suggested that the corresponding design strategy from the garden site, design principles, space design, landscape design four aspects. First, healing garden of Alzheimer’s patients design to adhering to the safety, health and comfort, accessibility, recognition, communication, humanization six design principles, then around the the six principles, determine the garden of location and space layout, the healing garden is divided into five parts: the pedestrian space, communication space, recreational space, private space, gardening activities space, and respectively of the five space design points were described in detail. Finally through the specific design of the seats, sculptures, pavilions, corridors, paving, water features, plants, marked system, lighting system etc. landscape elements, enhance dementia patients feel, let dementia patients could be safe and comfortable to use a garden, but also in the use of garden reach the effect of rehabilitation nursing.
