Currently the research of rutting about asphalt pavement has a large scales, but few specifically for urban road intersections. The modes of vehicle load in Intersections are very different from other sections with frequently braking, starting, and also the phenomenon of long-stay parking. Pavement Distress is much more serious than the other sections. This article aims at exploring the main reasons of intersection pavement distress and giving some suggestions to intersection asphalt pavement’s design, based on the actual traffic conditions and the modes of load.Firstly, a research about the traffic volume, the signal timing, the main kinds of vehicle, the proportion of each vehicle and the other traffic information has been made through selecting a part of intersections of the main road in Nanjing. And also the history and current distress status of intersection asphalt pavement in Nanjing has been investigated.Secondly, a research model with cars and buses is considered and its technical quality parameters is confirmed. The axle load and horizontal force’s change of the vehicle according to the vehicle braking performance, pavement smoothness condition and road surface friction coefficient will be analyzed.Again, the mechanical response of pavement structure under different braking conditions according to the particularity of load characteristics in road intersections has been studyed. The control recommendations of design stress and strain in intersection pavement with the differences of mechanical response between the intersection loads and standard design load will be raised.Then, the pavement typical structure and the mixture gradation has been ensured and five different design schemes for the middle surface layer has been ptu forward. Through introducing the principle of partial triaxial test and listing the creep scheme of asphalt mixture according to the force characteristics in road intersections, the creep deformation’s law of asphalt mixture with different mode of load, different size of load and different pavement materials under different temperature(20℃,40℃ and 60℃)is compared.Finally, the surface boundary conditions of urban roads and highways is determind through an investigation. The differences between the two kinds of road’s pavement temperature field are compared with the same structure and materials. Analyze the influences of the climate temperature, the load mode, the load size and the pavement materials on rutting deformation and explore the rutting contribution ratio of the layers and the temperature range with rutting rapid-growing by the finite element simulation method. Some suggestions for rutting control has been raised and the axle load conversion method by rutting deformation in intersection areas has been discussed.
