Research On The Spatial Form Of Urban Waterfront Regions Flourished For Water

Since the second half of the 20th century, update and redevelopment of urban waterfront area has gradually become a global phenomenon. The area has also shifted from the earlier production belt to a city hot spot integrating multiple functions in forms of service, life facility and so on. The sharp changes of waterfront areas have attracted wide attentions from scientific worker in various industries like geography, ecology, engineering and architecture. At the same time, it has also turned to the focus issue of the scholars have to face as how to build city network and rationally shape spatial development pattern of cities flowing their natural water system.The thesis takes Hankou’s historical source—Hanzheng Street,the concession and the bund as the major special scale of the research, and makes an analysis on the inevitability and peculiarity of Hankou waterfront space functions and the pattern The research by reference from Lefebvre’s spatial theory specially studies on dialectical interactive research system combining space, history and society. It further makes an evaluation of Hankou waterfront space development under modern social ideology and talks about the inspirations it brings to me, based on the historical evolvement of the area. At last, the paper states seven well-directed design principles for waterfront city:the integral and multi-objective coordinative development, gradual improvement, cultural succession, conservation of characteristics, and maintenance of natural ecological balance, social publicity and patency.
