Open space refers to urban public space, including natural landscapes, parklands, squares, roads and leisure space, etc. Open space along urban roads focused in this study is an important part of urban open space. It is not only the most direct form to show the image and the construction level of the city, but also the most direct media through which the temporary habitants learn about the city and the local residents gain their daily experiences. The dissertation is divided into 3 parts.Firstly, the paper analyzes systematically the evolution and features of urban roads to summarize their essential attributes and future trends. At the same time, by studying the theories and characteristics of open spaces, the paper induces the key elements influencing the urban roadside open space to carry out a classification inspection, and explores the general laws for outstanding roadside open space designs. Secondly, taking Changzhou Xinbei district for engineering practice example, the paper sorts and grades its urban roads to construct the roadside open space system. For different levels and types of roads, it proposes the concept of design toolbox, to offer a practice guide of design elements on the basis of classifying and grading. Finally, in the perspective of transforming research results into implementation, it explores the strategies and guidance for management and control. |
