With the rapid development of information and communication technology, vehicle information device gains wide application. Drive distraction behavior related to the vehicle information device is increasing, resulting in difficulty for drivers to get all kinds of traffic information timely and accurately. It’s easy to cause traffic accidents and has a great impact on traffic safety. Research on the effect of using in-vehicle information device on drive behavior and proposition of evaluation method for in-vehicle information device can provide a basis for the design and application of in-vehicle information device, maximize its positive effect and improve the driving safety.This thesis analyses the information processing mechanism of drive behavior, attention distribution characteristics during drive behavior and the influence of distraction on drive behavior. By adjusting the radio as an example, drive distraction experiments under normal driving conditions and using different interaction(button type, touch panel and voice control) of in-vehicle information device were performed based on the virtual driving simulation platform. The driver response time and the target hit rate were measured with Peripheral Detection Task(PDT). The mean off-road galance duration and the sum of off-road galance durations were measured with eye movement measurment. Driver mental load was evaluated by NASA-TLX subjective rating scale. In addition, the data of the vehicle speed variation were also collected.Based on the experiment data, the effects of using in-vehicle information device on the driver response ability, visual characteristics, mental load and speed maintance capacity were analyzed. It is found that using in-vehicle information device based on different interation forms has different degree of influence on drive behavior. Using the in-vehicle information device with touch panel requires more psychological resources, resulting in more negative influence on drive behavior. Compared with the touch panel type, button type and voice control have less impact. As the operation of voice control doesn’t need stare at the in-vehicle information device, it is obviously better than the other two types in terms of visual characteristics. But in terms of mental load, due to the complex cognitive process to understand speech information, a big cognitive load is caused, leading to the biggest influence.Based on the theory of Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP), A multi-level evaluation index system was constructed and an evaluation method of in-vehicle information device based on drive distraction behavior was built. In-vehicle information devices with button type, touch panel and voice control were evaluated. The evaluation method was validated combined with the experiment results.
