The technique of smart substation has greatly improved after years of development. At present, there are many smart substations put into operation in China and running in good condition. However, the restructuring research focuses more on the newly-built smart substations instead of the traditional substations. Therefore, studying one kind of effective and conventional substation smart transformation scheme, to achieve smart transformation under partially power interruption, is the most critical thing in order to meet the demand of most retrofit projects.In this paper, the conventional substation smart transformation technology plan has been deeply studied and researched. The development status of the smart substation, the related technology of smart substation and the network structure of smart substation are introduced; the several models of the current conventional substation smart transformation has been analyzed in detail. Comparing the advantages and disadvantages of several intelligent transformation mode; and proposing the existing difficulties of conventional substation smart reconstruction project and the problems that need to be solved; At the same time, studying on various reform demand of conventional substation smart transformation in the current technical conditions, taking Shuanglong substation of Zhejiang power grid, which is the first 500 kV substation that use comprehensive automation technology in China as an object, the paper elaborates the implementation scheme and key technology of the smart transformation project.
