Architectural design for elementary education will be one of the major trend in the future architectural design. So far, the study on this type of architectural design hasn’t gone as deep as the study on other types of design, such as design of residential buildings, commercial buildings or office buildings. Even though the leading theory on this field has drawn on other well-developed theories, it hasn’t made any progress since 1980s. The discussion on how to make architectural design for elementary education keep up with the development of China’s educational reform has a great realistic significance.Combined with practical experiences, the author has come up with the concept of ’smart school’ through the discussion with several faculty members. First of all, from the study on China’s curriculum reform and new informatization tide, the author will derive the two motivations for smart school. Second, the author will illustrate and summarize the current status of domestic design of smart school for elementary education. At last, using the two motivations for smart school, the author will discuss mainly on the space of architecture to open the subject for further study.
