By comparing and analyzing the seismic identification technology of buildings at home and abroad, reliability is used to evaluate the seismic reliability of buildings. Then, the reliability theory and methods to calculate it are introduced. Meanwhile, a simplified calculation method of the system reliability is put forward in this paper, which combines the reliability of each component in the same floor by the weight function (revised load/resistance ratio) as the total reliability of the floor, defining the minimum floor reliability as the reliability index of the structure.Masonry structure occurred mainly shear failure of structure failure modes under the action of earthquake, the paper defines the shear capacity of the wall minus its share of the earthquake as the functions of a seismic reliability, among which the shear capacity of the wall can be calculated by the standard formula of shear resistance ability. By carrying out the modeling analysis to a certain sum of masonry structures in the city of Kunming and calculating the reliability of each component, we can get the system reliability, furthermore, to obtain the statistical average reliability of masonry structure in an area. Moreover, by referring to the FEMA154 quick evaluation method for seismic capacity of buildings, the paper preliminarily confirmed the basic structural hazard score and the lower hazard score which can be applied to the city of Kunming. The paper also analyzed the mortar’s influence to the reliability index of masonry structure, giving some suggestions which are based on the above analysis, the purpose of which is to lay the foundation for the rapid identification method of seismic capacity of masonry structures.
