Reutilization Of Old Industrial Elements In Public Art In Residential Areas

The development of the times and the progress of science and technology has brought huge changes to people’s life and production. Human society is now entering a brand new era of information explosion. The progress of science and technology causes the phenomenon of "inverse industrialization" appear in cities. A large number of industrial plants and buildings are directly and roughly destroyed or simply and fully replaced so as to make way for the construction of city. The wheel of the era is rolling and at the same time, it also gradually crushes out the old industrial elements left over which carry the city’s historical memory relentlessly. The skyscrapers are built, and the original city landscape is changed completely or even disappears, we even can’t find a little bit trace of the old time.In such a context of this era, how could we effectively protect and reserve good old industrial elements on the premise of development, reserve the past memories and stories which are unique to each city, combine them contemporary public art and integrate them into the life and living environment again is the theme reflected and discussed in this article.This paper aims to study and discuss the reuse of old industrial elements in public art design in residential districts. It first analyzes and summarizes the present social background, studies and analyzes the current reuse condition of the old industrial elements, proposes to reuse the old industrial elements in design, analyzes realistic significance of reuse of old industrial elements including historical significance, cultural significance, economic significance, environmental significance and social significance, responses to the call of the times for resource conservation and sustainable development, and elaborates the feasibility and necessity of reusing old industrial elements in design. Meanwhile, it elaborates the present situation and the development of contemporary public art, combines the reuse of old industrial elements with public art, explores the protection, conservation and reuse ways of old industrial elements, analyzes the differences in its application in the field of business, culture and residential districts, and discusses the design technique of reusing old industrial elements in public art landscape in residential area. It then combines with the practical case of Rhine town, reuses the old industrial elements left over in the original village in design and creates a public art landscape in the community. It provides new reference for the landscape design of residential environment through the practical case, and creates a new form of residential environment landscape.
