Wire selection is an important issue in the field transmission line design. For decades ACSR is widely used in each calssification of voltage, which is outstanding in safety, enconomical efficiency and comprehensive benefits. For the past few years, to respond positively to the demand of "energy-saving and emission-reduction", the research and application of the energy-saving conductor is gradually raised into agenda, and domesic manufacturers are working on the introducion of the energy-saving conductor. However, the types of the energy-saving conductor are various with different energy-saving efficiencis. An effective and universal applicable method to select and evaluate the energy-saving conductor is required.In this paper, Jiangxi Lianhua-Xiangdong 220kV transmission line was taken as the sample,and the differentiated conductor selection design was carried out by using full life cycle management ideas and analysis methods. By changing the material and composition of conductors, various conductor plans were preliminarily selected to for the followed-up comparison. With comparison of the ampacity, electrical properties, mechanical properties, conductor plans were filtered. Through the caculation of the current period static investment difference and the forward energy loss difference, and taking the time value of the money into consideration, the full life cycle econamic efficiency of each type of wire were evaluated. With comprehensive comparison, the recomanded conductor plans were concluded. For the conventional segment of heavy icing area, it was suitable to choose 2×JLHA2-350 high strength aluminum alloy stranded wire with good energy saving characteristic and good mechanical properties. For the high elevation and large span section of heavy icing area, it was suitable to choose 2×JLHA1/G1A-300/50 steel core aluminum alloy stranded wire with excellent mechanical properties and good energy saving characteristic.According the conclusion of the selecting process, an effective and univeral applicable method to select and evaluate the energy-saving conductor was put forward, which pays attention to full cycle energy-saving efficiency. This mathod provides effective consult to energy-saving conductor selection and evaluation, which is significance to promote the full life cycle economic efficiency of the transmission line.
