With the rapid development of our economy, more regions are covered by the road network. Along with the wider coverage come more traffic accidents caused by bad weather, such as fog, road icing and so on. Those accidents caused huge economic losses and heavy casualties. To reduce the occurrence of such accidents, an efficient traffic weather information early alarm warning system should be established. In this paper, a distributed meteorological information collection and early warning system for highway is designed in the Wireless Sensor Network to solve the above-mentioned problems.The system consists of three parts:sensor module, wireless communication module and remote monitoring and management platform based on Web server. Host computer integrated management platform has the functions of real-time data display, alarm, historical data query, etc. Real-time meteorological data are displayed on the web page, once exceeding the warning value, system prompt alarm and send the alarm message to the target mailbox at the same time. The historical data can be graphically displayed on the web page.The design of the system consists of two parts:hardware and software. The hardware part includes:sensor interface circuit design, power circuit design, Zigbee wireless communication module hardware circuit design and USB conversion circuit design. The software part includes:Zigbee wireless communication module protocol stack software design, Web server construction under the Linux system, Web page design, SQLite database design and CGI interface program design.Using the embedded Linux operation system, this system builds a Web server on the local computer and constructs the B/S (Browser/server) architecture. The system can rapidly access to meteorological monitoring data and update meteorological data in real-time though the connection of CGI and SQLite database. Remote client can access to the server with the browser, and the real-time meteorological elements (the temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind direction) and alarm information are displayed on the Web page. The meteorological elements are collected by the meteorological sensors and transmitted to the server through the wireless transmission mode.Finally, the system is tested in the main road behind the campus library. The results show that the test system is stable and can meet the demand of road traffic.
