Resource-based city is a kind of special characteristic city.The fate of such kind of city are highly linked to the periodicity of non-renewable resources, such as relies on coal, oil and various kinds of mineral deposits. The resource developmentregulation of “evolutionperiod– rich period-- stable period – exhausted period” is destined the fate of “construction – prosperity – recession – transformation” in Resource-based cities.The particularity of this development has brought a series of problem, restricting the development of the city and eventually facingthe grim situation of mineral depletion and city decline. As it has become an international study, this paper will analyze the characteristics of the resource cities and its important status in the national development. It put forward the necessary of choosing transformation in “source stable period” in resource-based cities, through analyzing the resource development regulation of “evolutionperiod– rich period-- stable period – exhausted period”. According to the analysis of some successful transformation of resource citiesin both domestic and foreign, it summarizes impact factors in the transformation of resource-based cities and tends to conceive the urban development trend in the resources city transformation. Finally, this thesis will take Tang Shanas a typical case of resource-based city to specifically analyze such transformation. It also lists a series of problems caused by coal mining process, and some transformation design methods of some special regions. It tends to provide some feasibility of guidance and reference significance to transformation studies in other recourse-based cities.
