During the rapid development process, the city changed the original appearance, and gathering of residents is growing, leading to the low quality of outdoor space and limitation of people’s daily outdoor activity; while the development of mobile Internet, smart phones is changing people’s lifestyle, in which people have less outdoor activities and spend more time on phones. Therefore, residents have strong demand for outdoor activities, neighborhood association, and contact with nature. As the place of highest utilization rate of resident activities, community outdoor recreation venues play the role of carrying the daily activities and interaction. Thus its quality improvement will help to meet the recreational needs of residents and form a vibrant community.First, the paper sorted out the emotional design theory of the place and defined the community outdoor recreation space; then compared the traditional public space with the modern space and inferred the appropriate emotional needs theory, in which the community outdoor recreation place emotions demand is divided into three levels:the sensory level, the level of use and level of reflection; and did the research on part of Chengdu’s community recreational spaces analyzed the emotional design on the main line of the three places, and finally proposed appropriate community outdoor recreation place emotional design strategy.From the user point of view emotion, emotion is formed in a time length of the path, the paper focused on the settled deep interaction between people and places:emphasized plants sensory level, and enhanced the tactile experience places on the sensory level; increased appropriate scale and pleasant pedestrian street at the level of use, and maintained an atmosphere of their daily lives, while emphasizing the diversity of recreation places; proposed the importance of reflecting on the scene, which was the sources of memories, identity, ownership of emotional.
