With the arrival of "Industry 4.0" and "Made in china,2025", intelligent manufacturing has been attached great importance aiming at promoting the intelligent manufacturing process. Intelligence is the combinition of information technology and automation, which was supported by improving the level of production line equipment automation and enhancing the informatization of manufacturing enterprise management software.Assembly manufacturing enterprises have made quick adjustment in fierce competition by updating equipments and adjusting process constantly to improve the manufacturing capability and efficiency. Also, some management systems have been adopted in order to improve the workshop management. But they all ignored the production management methods in improving the enterprise’s production efficiency and product quality from the comprehensive perspective. Manufacturing execution system, as the workshop layer management system, is a compensation to make the weak workshop management more transparent and informative, and also the connection between the upper and lower system to achieve the workshop comprehensivly managed. It reflects the situation of the production operating to the managers of different layer in the enterprise fully, accurately and nearly in real time, which will be way too important for the managers to make the correct decision to optimize the production of the workshop. So, it’s significant to do some research on MES for workshop management.The paper summed up the achievements made in the field of MES research at home and abroad followed by the introduction of the subject source, background and meaning, it has not only obtained great economic benefits, but also improved the level of the overall workshop management by vigorously promoted in our country’s manufacturing industries. This paper mainly analyzed the research and application of MES in the manufacturing industry, especially in the automotive industry, and we also did some research on the key modules’ status, such as process monitoring and quality management. Besides, the urgent requirement for the MES management implementation was put forward in the hydraulic torque converter assembly manufacturing enterprise. Specific research work and conclusions are as follows.Firstly, the actual investigation was completed in assembly workshop. In order to pinpoint the problems existing in the workshop and improve need in the current situation, we did research respectively from the hydraulic torque converter structure, process characteristics, the existing assembly workshop management and facilities. We also studied the requirement, theories, design standards and the relatively mature function model of MES.Secondly, the function models were determined and the overall framework of HTC-MES was constructed. On the basis of enterprise requirement analysis and MES-related theories, the HTC-MES function models were put forward, which included material management, production planning and scheduling, process monitoring quality management and basic data management. Then, the HTC-MES framework was set up, and detailed division and specific inner function were carried out in process monitoring and quality management.Thirdly, we studied the two important subsystems in detail, which included their concrete implementation method and technology. Process monitoring is to supervise elements in the workshop with the support of data acquisition in real time and in full. In this paper, the combination technology of OPC and WCF, a unified data information collection, was proposed under the needs of specific data acquisition based on the existing control system and network, and the information were from heterogeneous equipments, acquisition terminals and so on, and eventually the production process was monitored on real-time. Quality management subsystem mainly focused on process quality management, we applied the advanced SPC technology to monitor the key working procedure. The process quality was continuously improved through the statistical analysis of key process data.Finally, the prototype of HTC-MES software was designed and implemented. Before we used the C# programming language and the database developing tool Microsoft SQL Server 2008 to design the software, we make some preparations, like the software structure and database features. Then the software interface was achieved to show the main function modules. Ultimately, the management of HTC-MES in the assembly workshop is realized.
